How to Fix Black Screen Issues When Installing Windows 10

How to Fix Black Screen Issues on Windows 10 Due to Connection Problems

When encountering a black screen, there could be many reasons, including hardware, software, or a combination of both. The following instructions will help you resolve the issue.

1. Check Connection Problems

If the computer encounters a black screen before logging into the account, it may be due to a connection problem between the display and the computer. In this case, please recheck the connections and ensure that both ends of the signal cable are properly connected, the monitor is powered on, and the correct input mode is used.

If there are multiple video outputs, try switching the connection to a different port. Often, driver updates may send the video signal to the wrong port (DP, HDMI, DVI, Thunderbolt, VGA) for unknown reasons.

Additionally, if you are using a system with both a discrete graphics card and an integrated graphics card, you can switch to the integrated graphics card to confirm whether the problem is related to the discrete graphics card. Another troubleshooting method is to connect the monitor to another computer to check if the monitor is damaged.

2. Detect Display

In many cases, the black screen on the device occurs because Windows 10 has lost the connection to the monitor. When this happens, you can press the Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B keys to restart the graphics driver and refresh the connection to the monitor.

On tablets (such as Surface Pro or Surface Go), you can press the volume up and volume down buttons simultaneously three times to wake up the screen.

Alternatively, you can use the Windows key + P keyboard shortcut to bring up the "Project" menu, press the P key, and then press Enter to switch between different display modes to see if the black screen disappears. Repeat the above steps four times to cycle through all the settings.

3. Disconnect Unnecessary Devices

Peripherals connected to the computer may be the cause of a black screen at startup or a black screen with spinning dots. If you encounter a similar situation, please disconnect all peripherals from the computer (such as printers, cameras, USB drives, Bluetooth, and other USB devices). Restart the computer, and if everything works fine, it indicates that there is a problem with one of the peripherals. You can identify the problematic device by reconnecting one peripheral at a time. Once you know the device causing the problem, disconnect it, restart the computer, and then search online to see if there is a fix, or contact the device manufacturer for help.
